![]() ![]() I have a fig tree in my yard that has not produced any fruit for several years. They prefer evening temperatures in the 65- to 70-degree range. Night temperatures above 75 degrees will also reduce flower production in African violets. This light can be provided by natural sunlight or fluorescent lamps. This should give you some idea of the light level needed. An overcast day will produce an intensity of about 1,000 foot-candles. ![]() Lower light levels for longer periods of time are also satisfactory. They require 1,000 foot-candles of light for eight to 12 hours per day. Healthy African violets that fail to bloom are not receiving enough light. My African violets look very healthy, but they don't bloom. ![]()
