![]() Nonetheless, Lydia still refuses to allow Clarissa to wear spectacles, arguing that "being clumsy is better than being ugly". Clarissa is a pretty and wealthy lady, but her "clumsiness" has sent most of her suitors away. ![]() Without being able to see anything but blurry colors and shapes, Clarissa has one graceless accident after another and is soon nicknamed "Clumsy Clarissa" by the ton. Lydia is trying to get Clarissa married off this Season and believes no gentleman will look at Clarissa twice if she's wearing those ugly spectacles, but this silly "scheme" isn't really working. Lady Clarissa Crambray is extremely nearsighted and "blind as a bat" without her spectacles, but her stepmother Lydia has forbidden her to wear them - in fact, she has broken them and thrown them away to prevent Clarissa from disobeying her. Now I'm wondering why I didn't pay attention to her sooner. My sister loves her books and had urged me to read one of them for ages, but I only caved in yesterday. This was my first book by Lynsay Sands and it was really good. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The second section is dedicated to sapphic Neurodiverse stories. In Venom, we learn more about Elena's parents through Queen Cathrine's journals, travel to tropical paradise within Paegeia, and learn more about King Helmut's dragon. I joined Elena every time she called him "idiot" or "my stupid dragon" because lets face it, it's true and even more so in Poison. Speaking of her dragon, he is more stubborn than ever. Elena begins to revert back to her old ways by becoming passive but don't worry, the courageous one is still in there. She feels lost without her friends, Cara and her dragon. Her advisers seems more concerned with keeping Elena from her old life and controlling her every move, from the way she dresses to how she speaks. Elena is not having an easy time with her new role as Paegeia's long lost princess. The story takes place a few weeks after Frostbite. I still remember building my strongest connection with Sammy, Becky and Elena while reading Venom. Woods an opportunity to focus on character development. While there was no epic battle, I really love these novellas because I feel like they give Ms. Poison is a novella that takes place between Frostbite and the upcoming and semi-final installment, Moonbreeze. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You can find the link to the rest of the messages at the end of this post, do listen to it! Many women were considered hysterical and given treatment as if they were insane. This gives in to the stereotype that all women are crazy, especially at the point in time this story was written. He “assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression – a slight hysterical tendency.” John encourages her to not think about her illness because he believes that will only make it worse, and the woman seems to take everything he says as gospel. John does everything he can to take care of her, but doesn’t let on that anything is seriously wrong with her. She goes on and on about John and everything he has to say about her illness or, as he seems to think, her lack thereof. ![]() From the beginning of the story, it is obvious that the main character and narrator, a woman, is acting as her husband’s inferior. ![]() ![]() ![]() They go their way, do their thing, are not subservient and will never apologise. They can never be relied upon to shore up a human ego. Just look at this piece of brilliant writing: I can totally comprehend why this book is so critically acclaimed. I was honestly in awe of how she managed to write this story – it’s an unstructured outpour of words, but a really beautiful one at times. Her writing is incredibly accomplished but also quite unique and eccentric – the whole story is told in this incredibly frantic stream of consciousness manner, which makes for a really interesting reading experience. It’s undeniable that Anna Burns is a very skilled writer. ![]() Milkman follows an eighteen-year-old girl in an unnamed city during The Troubles in Ireland, as she becomes the focus of the town’s gossip in the midst of her own personal drama, all set to the backdrop of a very tumultuous time for her country and community. ![]() I knew nothing about it going in and I have to say – I am conflicted.
